Welcome in the second episode of “Ask the dev” – this time you will have the opportunity to meet Paweł – our drone master!
1) What was your first bug?
I don’t recall the first bug I’ve committed in my life, but I clearly remember one of the first bugs on the very beginning of my career in Thaumatec. I’ve declared the variable as unsigned were it should be signed and I’ve been debugging a lot of “hardware” issues before I found it!
2)What is the best comment in source code you ever found/wrote?
I’ve found many of them, some funny, some very pitiful, but this one pragma beats them all:
#pragma warning “dupa ciemna”
3)What is your best programmer joke?
#define true false
4) What is your favourite technology/language (area of interests) and why?
Qt. Code less. Deploy everywhere.
5) Why did you decide to become a developer?
I love to destroy. Since I was a child I’ve disassembled a lot of devices starting from old radios and telephones to large copy machines. Sometimes I like to watch things burn (the last one was a few years ago, but still). But I also love to create. A lot of parts from previously disassembled devices ended as a part of some project. Once I’ve found a radio tuner ( a part of some old hi-fi set ), it was OK, but It needed some external amplifier and speakers if you wanted to really listen to any radio station with it. I thought that I can use it in the kitchen but any external component would be in a way, so a few hours of work, one amplifier chip from a copy machine ( what was audio grade amplifier doing in a copy machine? – I do not know till this day), two speakers form broken LCD-TV later I had a working FM radio receiver in my kitchen.
What it has to do with coding? A lot. These days a lot of things is done in software, so I think as a natural cause of action, my interests involved towards software. I’m still working close to the hardware. Device drivers and firmware are my things.
6) What is your biggest programming challenge?
Every day is a challenge! Every time I have to face something new. Right now the biggest are Linux kernel drivers. I would like to commit something to mainline someday…
7) What happened to your drone during the last party?
A funny thing has happened! I was demonstrating the drone performance for one of our colleagues at last company integration event. After that, I’ve put the drone on the table, but some people just love to watch someone else things „burn”. They’ve reconnected the drone battery and turned it on, then placed the controller into the „wrong” hands. Lets just say, that the person holding the controller just put in on „a full throttle” and we’ve watched it fly away 🙂 After a short while, seeing what’s happening, the person threw the controller on the table in my direction, but I was not able to save it, it was too late for that ;-(
9) Who is the table football master?
I hate football table! I’m still waiting for a pool table that has been promised by one of our bosses a long time ago…
