Meet Thaumatec in Berlin during one of Tech Open Air Satellite Events

Living in Wrocław, the city located on the western side of Poland, have one, very big advantage – in around three hours you can visit three, big cities – Warsaw, Prague and Berlin. For us, that means a connection to the events and networking possibilities in those business hubs. That’s why this time we decided to visit lovely Berlin!

And the reason why we are going there is Tech Open Air Satellite Event with the title “How to find a Tech-Partner for your Digital Business?”. Tech Open Air (often abbreviated as “TOA”) is an annual interdisciplinary technology festival that takes place in Berlin, started in 2012, and in short time become the most famous technology events in Europe. “The main concept behind Tech Open Air is to bring together the areas of technology, music, art, and science by providing a platform for multi-disciplinary knowledge exchange, collaboration, and development.”

During the event, we will try to find an answer to a very popular question – how to find the proper international partner in the high – tech world? How should this process look like? Which key factors are important – quality, experience or price? What’s important in cooperation with other companies?

Germany is well-known for developed IT market, but also for a shortage of IT skills. This creates an amazing opportunity to cooperate on the international level. Our host, SIBB Project LOOKOUT will present examples of such cooperation on an international level with the closest neighbour country of Berlin – Poland.

Key Takeaways of the event:
• How to distinguish “The Best Software House” from another “The Best Dev Shop” on the market?
• How to finish a project successful? Tools and workflow in project management, people running the project, technologies and processes of deployment.
• What are market specific requirements: portfolio of referrals, experience and credibility, the ways and language of communication?
Let’s meet!
And all of this with the BBQ on the rooftop with an amazing panorama over Berlin.

Partnership with the city of Wrocław

Internet of Things devices are becoming more and more popular. We can use this name for everyday use equipment, which can communicate with each other. In 2020, on the whole planet should be more than 28 billions of IoT devices. Thanks to the agreement between our company and Wroclaw municipality, city units and universities will gain access to the local LoRaWAN network.

Wrocław is one of the most important cities, on the European Internet of Things map. The city really supports that kind of projects and a lot of companies are working to develop this technology. In the capital of Lower Silesia companies are producing simple, consumer – oriented Internet of Things devices and working on the whole IoT-dedicated networks.

One of the effects of this city support, is the partnership agreement between City Hall and Thaumatec. Based on this agreement, the city gains access to the local LoRaWAN network for their R&D purposes. The city will also support developing of this network with the access to the city infrastructure and help with all necessary documents.

One of the features of the LoRaWAN networks is their long-distance range: it’s up to few kilometres in the cities and over a dozen in the open area. A few weeks ago, our gateway received a package of data from 702 kilometres, what is the world record so far – says Krzysztof Berezowski, CEO of Thaumatec – LoRaWAN devices need less energy than the one using traditional mobile phone network, what makes them perfect for the Internet of Things solutions. Moreover, developing LoRaWAN network is cheaper than mobile phone one, because devices are cheaper and also they are using non-licensed, free radio frequencies.

Internet of things devices are becoming very popular on the whole planet and with the long-distance signal range, they can be used to realise the idea of Smart Cities – smart and ecological cities with simple management. Metropolises can use it for example to manage street lights or to optimize the process of collecting municipal wastes, what helps them to reduce the costs.

Thanks to this agreement, all the city departments gain access to the gateways covering almost the whole city. Universities and other research and development units can create their own Internet of Things project or connect their existing devices to local LoRaWAN network

In Wrocław, you can also join a local The Things Network Community – it’s the global organization with almost 18000 members in 86 countries, who are building the global, LoRaWAN – based network for the Internet of Things devices.

Thaumatec was a partner of The International Rescuers Competition organized by Order of Malta

Our employees have a lot of different hobbies and passions. And we love to support them, especially when they are connected with one of the most important values – saving human lives and education. So when we got an offer to support International Rescue Competition, organized by local department of Order of Malta, we didn’t think too long.

The main goal of The International Rescuers Competition is to develop knowledge and skills in the field of first aid and to give rescuers the opportunity to check themselves in real-based situations. Through this event Order of Malta wants to promote the idea of first aid and volunteering. The competition is based on theoretical and practical tasks, all of them are being judged by professional paramedics.

The first of edition of this event took place 5 years ago, in 2012. During the last weekend, we had a pleasure to support 8th edition with 16 teams from different countries. We are very happy to share with you the pictures from this event.

LoRa – The Things Network in Wrocław

On June 20th, the first meet up of The Things Network community in Wroclaw took place. Of course, Thaumatec was present as the main contributor with 3 gateways in Wroclaw.

Presenting the use cases already realised by Thaumatec in co-operation with the Technical University of Wroclaw, gave the participants a good insight into the possibilities of the LoRa network.

With the third gateway, our LoRa network not only provides increased coverage and quality of service in Wrocław but also allows for further research into LoRa localization methods, both algorithmic and based on machine learning.

Also, Thaumatec’s LoRa gateways, located at SM Arka and University buildings are supporting LoRa connectivity for The Things Network Wrocław Community.

Positive changes in Thaumatec – Check out what’s new!

1) New office
2017 was an amazing year for us – full of new customers, new employees and new amazing challenges. Because of our rocket growth, our outstanding office started to be too small for us. That’s why we decided to open another office in Wroclaw, really close to the previous one but in totally different style. We moved there some of our teams and they immediately started to call it “Paris” – when you will look at pictures, definitely you will know why! So from now, when you decide to work in Thaumatec, you will have a choice to work in our park villa or…in Paris!

2) New website
After few months of work, finally, we can show you our new website. For a long time, we had the feeling that our previous website doesn’t present what kind of company we really are. That’s why we prepared new one – modern, clean and very personalized. Now you can find there a lot more information about everyday life in our company.
